Bella’s Little Sanctuary, Come Find Refuge

A meta critique came up in our conversation about the mythic “Hero’s Journey.” The Hero, which so often gendered male, is larger than life (think Brad Pitt—super cut with deliciously sumptuous lips.)

The Hero symbolizes an impossible reality. And yet, somehow, we are surrounded by quiet heroes every single day.

Bella is one of these quiet heroes.

Overshadowed on Instagram (a different Meta altogether) by images of bodies demonstrating superhuman feats that appear impossible by any “normal” standards. Somehow our mind is tricked into connecting these Superhuman displays of prowess to symbolize a successful inner quest culminating in God Realization.

Bella Sarna is interested in creating a different kind of space. She’s focused on cultivating a little sanctuary to come home to. A sanctuary that’s as much a sacred place inside her heart, as it is a beautiful room to step into.

Isn’t that after all the true purpose of Yoga?

To find refuge within ourselves. To come home to a quiet integration of our mind, body, and spirit. Our guest today is doing just that.

Bella Sarna is a Yoga facilitator and deeply devoted student of Ashtanga Yoga. She is also a mother, an Entrepreneur, and works as the Marketing Director and Owner of boutique Interior Design business, where she creates beautiful residential and retail spaces.

Bella was born in London to a Portuguese mother and an Indian father. As a mother of two young children, with a demanding job, she understands how hard it can be to fit yoga practice into the day.

In her life and work as an interior designer, you can see that she has exquisite taste. She calls upon an eclectic, colourful style drawing from her cultural roots and a deep reverence for nature. She has a passion for tiles, colour, craftsmanship and the Antiques Roadshow!

Little Sanctuary was born out of a wish to create a beautiful space to come home to both in yourself and where you live.

An artist at heart, some of her happiest moments include creating mood boards and painting.

As a student of yoga for over twenty years, Bella has practised under the guidance of many great teachers. Her journey began in the Shivanada lineage. Soon she was studying with yoga legends like Dena Kingsberg, Kino MacGregor, and Tim Feldman, among many others!

Yoga for her is a beautiful blend of chanting, breathing, moving, cultivating stillness and a deep inner wisdom.

So today we spoke about learning to love your body, to be grateful for what it can do, and to use the practice to nourish ourselves, rather than try to fit into someone’s idea of what a posture “should” look like.

Body positivity is on our minds… And we’re get into it!
