A Conversation on Yoga and Motherhood

Are you are passionate about practicing yoga, but struggling to balance the demands of “Seventh Series” (having a family) with your desire to create or maintain time for yourself and your yoga practice?

Recently, I had a conversation about this struggle and especially the understanding that, wow, things will never be the same again.

This conversation was recorded as a Live Instagram chat between myself and Sejal Gupta, an Authorized Ashtanga teacher in Mumbai, India. We discuss some of these challenges along with the hidden joys and unexpected gifts that are intertwined with becoming a mother.

In this conversation we look holistically at motherhood as a form of karma yoga (the yoga of selfless work) and bhakti yoga (the yoga of love and devotion) and how our practice of yoga shows up in all areas of life.

Through the act of birthing a child, we also birth a new sense of self, we lose our old identity, letting go of our self-centered desires, and in turn we receive a deeper connection and union with a greater force.

Learn how to modify your practice to fit it into a shorter time period and adapt the practice for different stages of life.

As a new mother you will hear some tips that can help to maintain your practice and also take care of yourself. Letting go of your past rules and routines and learning to adapt to a new way of being with the yoga practice is an integral part of transitioning into becoming a fulfilled Ashtanga Yoga Mama!

Now it’s your turn…
