Supta Virasana - Sleeping Hero's Pose

This is an excellent restorative yoga posture that can be of great benefit to your back-bends and can also help heal minor aches and pains in the knees. With time and practice, this restorative posture can very easily become a resting pose that can deeply renew and rejuvenate the entire body.

Some Tips:

  • As a beginner, you might find your thighs sliding apart in this pose. To avoid this, use a strap to bind your thighs so that they remain inline with the hips.

  • Make sure that while you get into the pose, you do not feel any sharp twisting sensations in your knees.

  • Keep the lower lumbar spin lengthening

  • Only stay in the posture for as long as you comfortably can and come out at any time, standing right up and allowing the blood to flush out the knees and ankles.

  • Avoid this posture if you have a serious knee, back, or ankle problems that feel aggravated while in this pose

  • Be sure to come out of the posture and stand right up each time before going back into it
