Katie Silcox: Southern Shakti to Keep You Healthy, Happy & Sexy

Katie told us that ours was the “single most fun podcast she’d ever been on. Bar none!” High praise to be sure. We were SO delighted!

Getting to know Katie Silcox is like unwrapping a beautiful gift that keeps revealing more lovely surprises hidden inside the layers and folds:

The Southern Belle as Mystic who shares openly about her journey and struggles, what brought her to seek out the wisdom traditions of the East and ultimately what’s inspired her to explore the philosophical teachings of the West.

We’re exploring many of the fascinating intersections of Katie’s life, from teaching computers (human robots) to feel, to losing herself inside the weird, wonderful, and wild world of the Indian subcontinent, to writing a book that translate the ancient teachings of Ayurveda into something fun and sassy that any modern woman would enjoy as much as picking up a Cosmo magazine.

We’re exploring the connection between Western philosophy and Eastern mysticism, and how we’re living in a world where we’re trapped inside a selfie, taking a picture of a selfie, taking a picture of a selfie.

How can we get out?

Part of the answer is held within the word: Telos. This a term used by philosopher Aristotle that refers to the actualization of our potential, or the inherent purpose of an individual, in a way, it’s related to our "supreme end,” what one might refer to in India as Dharma.

The goal of yoga, as Katie says, is to “make that which is unconscious, conscious.”

To piece ourselves together in a way that we become “whole” or “holy,” unbreakable, and sacred.

Katie reminds us “Bhakti (devotion or love) is the end result of having done something else. It’s the natural field of the mind.”

And so, in the end, what matters most, is our sense of integration, harmony, and love. This is Bhakti.

We were reminded of what Krishna says to Arjuna amidst that infamously conflicted and paradoxical battlefield, “Give up all paths (dharmas) and take refuge in Me alone. I will liberate you.” (Bhagavad Gita chapter 18 verse 66).
